There are many urban decay dupes out there on the market, but its hard to know which ones are worth it. £37 can be quite a lot to invest in a make up palette, particularly if you are just starting out and want to practice by copying Urban Decay youtube tutorials but don't want to fork out for the look. So, as mentioned in my previous youtube haul, I think I've finally found the perfect duplicate.
It's from Make Up Revolution London, and funnily enough, I bought it about a minute after I bought the Urban Decay palette, without realising! That's why I own them both. However, below I'm going to show you the swatches on darker skin (as some of the colours are quite light), and let you know which particular colours are better on each palette. Hopefully with that information you'll be able to decide which one to go for, the luxury palette or the drugstore one!
ABOVE: SWATCHED FROM BOTH PALLETTES LEFT TO RIGHT. URBAN DECAY IS ON THE TOP, AND MAKE UP REVOLUTION LONDON IS ON THE BOTTOM. SEE IMAGES BELOW FOR COLOUR NAMES.
Above you can see the comparison between the two palettes, and they look almost the same! However, there are some slight differences...
VIRGIN VS ONE
I noticed that Virgin brushed on more easily than the one on the Iconic palette. Most of the colours on the Urban Decay palette pick up more easily when you place the brush on them, which is an advantage. However, the Iconic palette one (for this colour) had a slight shimmer.
SIN VS TWO
This one is one of the two that I deem to be the most differing. On my skin, Sin is almost barely there but it has a really lovely shimmer. This one I'd use to highlight the inside of my eyes nearest to my nose. The Iconic two colour turned out a slightly more off pink, however it has better pigmentation than Sin. It has quite a lot of shimmer too.
NAKED VS THREE
These two came out exactly the same. Unfortunately for me, they're my exact skin colour so they made my skin just look ashy- I don't think I'll be using this colour on either palette any time soon! On a lighter skin tone however, they would look gorgeous.
SIDECAR VS FOUR
This colour is a beautiful pale pink, but in this round it was Sidecar that won it! The iconic palette version had poor pigmentation and it took many layers to get it as thick as Sidecar.
BUCK VS FIVE
Buck is a brown with a slight purple pigmentation to it. It had better pigmentation than Five did. Five was also almost the same colour as my skin tone, so it was pretty much invisible for me! I'd imagine it wouldn't be consistent on lighter skin.
HALF BAKED VS SIX
These two once again were basically exactly the same! I love gold and brown tones on my skin, so this is for sure another one of my favourite colours. It's another one I'd use to highlight my eyes, nearest to my nose to make them look bigger.
SMOG VS SEVEN
These two shades were the same in consistency and pigmentation. This one was my favourite because it was almost my skin tone, but really shimmery! It would blend nicely with Half Baked for some golden brown eyeshadow glory.
DARK HORSE VS EIGHT
Dark Horse is darker than eight and has less shimmer. This can be used for a dark brown smoky look, but there isn't too much of a difference between the two different palettes on this one.
TOASTED VS NINE
The Urban Decay Toasted is less saturated than Nine on the Iconic palette. However, they both make for a great light pink colour.
HUSTLE VS TEN
If you look at the two palettes and compare these two colours, they couldn't seem more different. However the consistency is the same, and they both come out as really dark ashy browns.
CREEP VS ELEVEN
These last two dark blues are gorgeous! Creep is ashier on the Urban Decay palette than its alternative on the Iconic palette.
GUNMETAL VS TWELVE
What I love about this colour and Creep, is that their shimmer really reminds me of a starry night. That being said, Gunmetal has more pigmentation than Twelve does.
So who won? For me, the urban decay palette. But I own the dupe of Naked 3, and because I don't actually own the original, I don't feel like I'm losing out on much because the rosy gold colours of that palette are beautiful. However, they are good substitutes for the moment until I am ready to purchase the originals.
